May Chapter Meeting
Scott Richmond Presents:
The Golden Fly Box
Tuesday, May 9
6:00-7:00, No Host Eats and Drinks
7:00-9:00, Speaker Program
High Rocks Restaurant, 915 E. Arlington, Gladstone

It's always a treat to have Scott Richmond at our meetings. This month, Scott will show us how to build The Golden Fly Box.

The Gold Box: The One Fly Box You Should Always Have With You.

How to build a go-anywhere/go-anytime/catch-any-fish fly box. The GOLD BOX is the one fly box you should take anytime you go fishing. It is not the only box you'll carry, but it is the only box you'll always carry.

The GOLD BOX contains only flies that are easy to tie and/or universally available to buy, and they work almost everywhere. Rivers and lakes, saltwater and fresh, trout and bass, steelhead and carp, winter and spring, summer and fall--any water, any place, any species, any season!

Scott is currently the Executive Director of Westfly, a non-profit website that serves the Fly Fishing Community. He is a past president of the Northwest Outdoor Writers Association and is a recipient of the Enos Bradner Award, that organization's highest honor.

Scott Richmond is an award-winning author of nine books on Oregon fly fishing.

In addition, he has written numerous magazine articles and hundreds of internet articles. His novel River in the Sun—three love stories wrapped around a thriller core and set on the Deschutes River.

Bonus Book Sale:

Chapter member Juan Calvillio has released his new book: Fishing Montana's Westslope Waters- A Fly-Fishing Road Trip to Missoula's Bitterroot, Blackfoot, Clark Fork and Rock Creek. Juan will have books for sale so please consider supporting him.

Twin Lakes Outing Changed to May 5-7.

Timothy Lake Outing June 9-11
We're all anxious for some drier weather to get our fishing season started. Lakes historically are great early season outings.

Note that our Twin Lakes outing date has changed to the weekend of May 5-7. Late snows caused our date change.

Take advantage of our first outing at Lost Lake in the coast range on April 8th!

Steelhead Survey on Eagle Creek

Our survey team is still hard at work documenting steelhead, cutthroat and lamprey redds on Eagle Creek. We have documented 10 redds in our 1 mile survey reach. We have about 4 weeks to go in our survey and we're hitting peak activity!

Legislative Updates

The TU team has been working tirelessly in Salem during the session to support good bills and watch for bad ones. Here are some key pieces of legislation:

SB3: Suction Dredge Mining Reform: Stay tuned for an action alert coming out on this bill. TU is recommending support for this bill that provides reforms for suction dredge mining and protections for Essential Salmon and Steelhead Habitat.

HB 2099
This bill removes protections for fish on certain rivers. Please contact your legislator and urge them to vote no on this bill.
